A Process Built
Around Precision
Eight structured steps from initial conversation to final walkthrough. Every phase is defined, every decision is documented, and every outcome is accountable. No ambiguity. No surprises.
Industry Credentials

Most remodeling frustration comes from undefined process — clients who don't know what happens next, contractors who treat each project as loosely improvised, and no clear mechanism for accountability when expectations diverge from reality.
Our process is the opposite. Each of the eight steps below has a defined purpose, defined outputs, and defined sign-off criteria. The process exists to protect both sides: you know exactly what you're getting, and we know exactly what we're delivering. That clarity is what makes the work predictable, and what makes the outcome match the vision.
Discovery Consultation
We begin at your home. The purpose of this meeting is to understand your goals, assess the existing space, and identify any structural, mechanical, or site conditions that will affect the design. We measure, photograph, and ask questions — about how you use the space, what frustrates you about the current configuration, what you've seen elsewhere that you'd like to achieve. We don't arrive with a template; we arrive to listen.
Showroom Visit
Before design work begins, every client visits our showroom on Trade Street. This is where abstract decisions become concrete. You'll see full kitchen and bathroom display environments, walk through our cabinet finish library, examine countertop and tile materials at scale, and see Fisher & Paykel appliances integrated exactly as they would be in your home. The showroom visit compresses weeks of material research into a single, structured session.
Material Selection
With a clear direction established from the showroom visit, we finalize material specifications. Countertop slabs are reviewed at the stone yard — individual slabs selected, not just patterns. Tile selections are confirmed. Hardware and fixture choices are locked in. Every material decision is documented in a selection sheet that becomes part of the project contract, eliminating ambiguity between what was discussed and what will be installed.
Design Presentation
We present a complete set of design documents in our showroom's design presentation room — floor plans, cabinet elevations, and 3D renderings of your specific space with your actual material selections applied. You see exactly what will be built before any commitment is made to construction. This session is structured: we walk through every elevation, every detail, and every decision point. Comments and revisions are captured, incorporated, and re-presented until the design is exactly right.
Budget Alignment & Contract
A detailed scope-of-work document is presented with a line-item breakdown of all costs — labor, materials, permits, and any allowances. We review the budget together and discuss any scope adjustments. We do not present vague estimates; every line item is defined. The contract specifies what will be done, with what materials, on what timeline, and at what cost. Payment schedule, change order process, and project communication protocols are all established at this stage.
Cabinet Production & Permit Processing
Cabinet production begins in our in-house shop immediately after contract execution — often overlapping with permit processing, which compresses the overall timeline. Permit applications are submitted to the applicable jurisdiction (City of San Diego, or the relevant municipality for La Jolla, Del Mar, Encinitas, and other areas). We manage the permit process entirely and schedule inspections. While this phase is largely invisible to the client, it represents significant value: cabinets built and ready before demolition begins.
Construction
Construction proceeds in a defined sequence: demolition, structural work (if any), rough mechanical (electrical, plumbing, HVAC), inspections, drywall, cabinet installation, countertop templating and fabrication, countertop installation, backsplash, flooring, plumbing finish, electrical finish, appliances, hardware, and paint. Each phase is inspected before the next begins. Our project manager coordinates trade scheduling and maintains daily oversight. You receive regular updates and have direct access to your project manager throughout.
Final Walkthrough & Handoff
When construction is complete and all inspections are passed, we conduct a formal walkthrough. We review every surface, every cabinet, every fixture, and every appliance with you — not as a cursory sign-off, but as a systematic inspection. Any punch-list items are documented and addressed immediately. We walk you through care and maintenance for all materials, provide warranty documentation (5-year workmanship warranty), and deliver a complete project file with permits, as-built records, and material specifications for your records.
Why a Defined Process Matters
No hidden decisions
Every material selection, every scope change, and every design revision is documented before it moves forward. Nothing is assumed — everything is confirmed.
No timeline ambiguity
The overlap between cabinet production and permit processing is deliberate. We compress timeline wherever possible without sacrificing quality or compliance.
No post-construction surprises
The design presentation and material selection phases exist specifically to prevent the 'that's not what I had in mind' moment that occurs too often in remodeling.
Common Questions About the Process
Do I have to visit the showroom, or is it optional?
It's a required part of the process. The showroom visit is where material decisions that affect every other design decision get made — cabinet finish, countertop material, tile, appliances. Trying to make these decisions from digital images or small samples creates misalignment between expectation and reality. The visit takes 90–120 minutes and saves weeks of revision cycles.
What happens if I want to make changes after the contract is signed?
Changes after contract execution are handled through a documented change order process. The change is described in writing, priced, and signed off before any modification is made to scope or materials. No verbal agreements — every change is a written addendum. This protects both the client and the project budget.
How do you handle permit processing in different San Diego jurisdictions?
San Diego County has multiple permitting jurisdictions — the City of San Diego, the County, and incorporated cities like La Jolla, Del Mar, Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Coronado each have different requirements and timelines. We have working relationships with each jurisdiction and have processed permits across all of them. We handle the application, track status, and schedule inspections — you don't need to interface with the building department.
Will I have a single point of contact during construction?
Yes. Your project manager is your primary contact throughout construction. They coordinate all trade scheduling, manage daily site operations, and provide regular updates. You have their direct contact information and can reach them by phone or text. You're not routed through a general intake line.
What does the 5-year workmanship warranty cover?
The warranty covers defects in workmanship — issues that arise from how the work was performed rather than normal material wear. Cabinet door alignment drift, tile grout cracking due to installation technique, and similar workmanship-related issues are covered. Material manufacturer warranties apply separately to products. Warranty terms are documented in writing at project completion.
